Description: This newly established festival is for any pianists whose teachers are the members of Bellingham, Lynden, Skagit Valley, and Whidbey Island WSMTA Chapters. The festival is not a competition, but it is an opportunity for each pianist to challenge oneself to prepare one or more movements of a Sonata or Sonatina to achieve excellence in piano playing through studying this historically important genre for piano. This year’s adjudicator, Dr. Michelle Huang, will provide brief written comments, and as many pianists who demonstrated exceptional preparation and performance will receive medals.
Eligibility: Any pianists whose teachers are the members of Bellingham, Lynden, Skagit Valley, and Whidbey Island WSMTA Chapters. There is no age limit.
Three Categories for the Entry:
A. Up to 3 min. of playing (Registration Fee $15)
B. Up to 5 min. of playing (Registration Fee $20)
C. Up to 10 min. of playing (Registration Fee $25)
Required Repertoire: One or more movements of a Sonata or Sonatina, written for solo piano from any time periods.
here will be an additional category designated for a participant’s own composition or arrangement that is a Sonata or Sonatina. Memorization is required to qualify for a medal; however, students may use the score to participate and receive feedback.
